FERGUSON VALLEY
WESTERN AUSTRALIA
NOVEMBER 2019
Our No 2 has just finished his final exams, so we escaped for a weekend with another couple to the Ferguson Valley. Located less than two hours south of Perth and close to Bunbury, it is the ultimate stop for either an adventure filled stay or just a potter around the wineries and breweries.
We stayed at "Home Among the Gum Trees" an airbnb located on Ferguson Road. Overlooking the rolling hills and a pine plantation, we were greeted by four very friendly Labradors, half a dozen peacocks and owner Jennifer. It was tranquil and the facilities were excellent. We stayed for two nights.
Having arrived late in the afternoon, we spent our time enjoying the views from the verandah whilst sipping local wines. On the go early the following morning, we found ourselves walking the Wildflower Walk at the Crooked Brook Forest. The Class 3 walk is an easy 3km round trip from the carpark.
Gnomesville is apparently one of Australia's (or maybe just Western Australia's) top 100 sites to visit. We made a special visit in order to drop off a Gnome who had been given to our friends as a house-warming present. As they say "There's Gnome Place Like Home!", so we were sure he'd gnome doubt make friends there. 😆(Sorry, it becomes addictive!)
Driving on towards Wellington Dam, stop at the King Jarrah Tree. Estimated to be between 300 and 500 years old, it has withstood fires and storms to become a treasured tourist destination.
A leisurely drive through Wellington National Park, some roads were closed due to controlled burns, so we didn't get to see Honeymoon Pool, however did reach the Quarry and popular abseiling rock. We had a very nice lunch at St Aidan's winery.
After lunch we drove to Bunbury for coffee and then back to the house via the very pretty country town of Dardanup.
A fabulous couple of nights away with friends, celebrating the end of school!
