WANDER OUT YONDER - ROTTNEST ISLAND

ROTTNEST ISLAND

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

COVID ADVENTURES 2020

COVID, COVID, COVID, what a dampener to our planned year of travel. We started the year with both children going off to College in the Eastern States, just leaving us to plan a couple of trips to see them and a big mid-year family adventure to Africa. However, within five weeks of departing, our son was sent home and our daughter decided to stay at College.

Not long after WA enforced a hard border shutdown, WA Tourism began its campaign of 'Wander out Yonder' and we have felt compelled to explore this amazing state a little further. Previously, I have written about the amazing walking tracks at Rottnest Island. We've been over to Rotto a couple of times since it ceased being used as a Quarantine Island and have successfully completed all the island walks.

This last visit we hired bikes and cycled the island and played a 9 holes at the Rottnest Golf Course. There is always something for everyone, anytime of the year at Rotto. We are so lucky to have it all to ourselves during the pandemic.

Apart from Rotto, we have frequented the south coast. We have stayed at Yallingup and Canal Rocks and of course frequented the wineries, cafe's, restaurants and galleries along with completing numerous sections of the Cape to Cape Hiking Trail. When travelling with friends we have been enjoying a sneaky 9 holes at the various public golf courses, which of course ends with a yummy lunch.

We are really enjoying getting out and about in WA and are forever trying to find WA's best milkshake. In order to do this we have to park and walk. Here are a couple of our favourite destinations:
  • Boat trip up the Swan River stopping at Elizabeth Quay for coffee and then heading to Maylands Dog park where you will find Peter's Ca Phe, Vietnamese Food Truck, a Donut van and a dog treat stall
  • Maylands Rowing Club - the coffee van here makes an amazing milkshake

  • Bells Rapids, Avon Valley - here on a Sunday morning the man in the van serves up great coffee and hot, hot jam donuts
  • South Beach Cafe, Fremantle - Here you will find the best milkshake in Perth! (so far)
  • Park near Kings Park and walk into the city and beyond. You see so much more when on foot
  • Rockingham - a half day destination location for an urban explore
  • Scarborough - park and walk around Scarborough foreshore and the streets behind, then grab a beer from the shop and sit on the foreshore and watch the sunset
